Back Home In Clayton, Candicci’s Is Italian And A Whole Lot More

By Sheila Frayne Rhoades

Late last year, Candicci’s – a landmark in Clayton for 18 years that later moved to Creve Coeur – returned to its roots at a new address on Bemiston. Candicci’s Italian Grille owner Bob Candice, a 27-year restaurant veteran, is pleased with his new and much larger Clayton venue.

“We can seat 90 inside and 20 in our outdoor café,” Candice said. His restaurant, which features dine-in, banquet, full-service catering and delivery services, is open and comfortable, and its bistro-like décor boasts plenty of European flair. Walls are decorated with large Lautrec–like posters and fully stocked wine racks. A large bar near the entrance welcomes the thirsty.

Candice describes the menu as basically Italian and much more, with a lot of surprises thrown in. “We offer a wide array of dining options, from old favorites like Toasted Ravioli, Fettuccine Alfredo and huge cheese-topped salads to Chicken Gorgonzola, fresh Spinach Manicotti and Parmesan Encrusted Salmon,” Candice said.

Indeed, there truly is something at Candicci’s Italian Grille for every palate: Seafood, chicken, steaks, veal dishes and, of course, pastas fill the pages of the restaurant’s vast menu. One of the owner’s favorite dishes is the Langusto Supremo, a delectable mix of fettuccine noodles, lobster stock cream sauce, bay scallops, shrimp, clams, green pepper and celery, seasoned with a hint of pesto.

Dinner entrees are reasonably priced and include a house salad and choice of side dish. Health-conscious guests appreciate the dinner menu’s special low carbohydrate section, which features a variety of creative dishes that sacrifice absolutely nothing in terms of taste. Burgers, pizzas and hot and cold gourmet sandwiches round out the mouth-watering fare.

Unlike many restaurants that do just a bit of catering on the side, catering is an integral part of Candicci’s’ business. In fact, Candice stressed that his business is a restaurant, catering and banquet operation, and all aspects of his business are treated with equal importance.

“I want people to know that we offer a great variety in our catering menu for groups of 12 or more,” Candice said. Customized catering is available for any event, with business meetings, pharmaceutical rep luncheons, private parties, rehearsal dinners and weddings easily, regularly and professionally accommodated. “We offer full-service delivery of breakfasts, boxed lunches and dinners. Our staff will set up the buffet and even toss the salad,” Candice said. “Just call, and we’ll take care of the rest.”

Back home in the heart of Clayton, Candicci’s Italian Grille is perfect for lunch or an evening out and is just as ideal for a fabulous meal off-premises.
